Summary

  • Loki season 2 wraps up Loki’s journey, but sets up potential spinoffs, particularly centered on the TVA and its detective-style role in the multiverse.
  • Sylvie’s story is likely to continue with new adventures, making her a potential focus for a spinoff series.
  • The introduction of new characters, such as Victor Timely and Ouroboros, leaves room for exploration and potential spinoffs to delve into their backgrounds and answer major mysteries.

Marvel Studios’ Loki series on Disney+ has come to an incredibly satisfying conclusion, but the series finale set up several storylines that could be explored in potential MCU spinoffs. After the MCU’s original Loki met his demise in Avengers: Infinity War, a variant of Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief escaped during the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame, and set out on a new adventure of his own with the Time Variance Authority. Loki’s story seems to be over following Loki season 2’s finale, as he has finally realized a new “glorious purpose” in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, but the MCU futures of the series’ other popular characters are less clear.

Loki season 2 perfectly wrapped up Loki’s MCU timeline as the former God of Mischief, and new protector of the multiverse. However, the series perfectly set up several potential MCU spinoffs that can continue to develop the story, which executive producer Kevin Wright also teased during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Wright noted that, if Loki is Breaking Bad, maybe new stories could be told by finding the series’ Better Call Saul-style spinoff. Loki’s new role as the God of Stories at the end of Loki season 2 lends itself perfectly to more stories being told concerning the TVA, Loki’s newfound family, and the villains introduced in Marvel Studios’ Loki.

We built a really awesome team, and if Loki is Breaking Bad, maybe there’s a way for this team to keep telling stories with our version of Better Call Saul — whether that’s with Sylvie, with the TVA, or with a new Loki. But we only want to do that if we have the right story and it can be just as fulfilling as this one. After all, you can’t be the God of Stories if you’re not going to tell more stories.

10 Hunter B-15 Could Lead A New TVA Detective Series

Wunmi Mosaku Portrayed Hunter B-15 In Loki On Disney+

Wunmi Mosaku's Hunter B-15 at the end of Loki season 2

At the end of Loki season 2, Loki’s new role as the protector of the multiverse meant that the Time Variance Authority also needed to change. Instead of solely watching over the Sacred Timeline, the TVA now oversees the infinite branches of the multiverse, and seems to be shifting into a more detective-style role of keeping tabs on threats such as Kang the Conqueror. Wunmi Mosaku’s Hunter B-15 has taken these changes in her stride, and seems to be a high-ranking member of the new organization, so it’s possible Loki could continue in a new TVA-centric series focused on B-15 and other workers at the TVA, hunting down multiversal threats.

9 Sylvie Is Embarking On New Adventures After Loki Season 2

Sylvie’s Future Is The MCU Hasn’t Been Confirmed

Sophia Di Martino debuted as Sylvie, a female variant of Loki, in Loki season 1, and was a major part of Loki’s evolution into a bona fide God at the end of Loki season 2. It was Sylvie’s killing of He Who Remains in Loki season 1 that destroyed the Sacred Timeline and allowed the multiverse to be unleashed. After killing He Who Remains, Sylvie lived a normal life as a McDonald’s worker on a branching timeline, but after Loki season 2, she’ll likely move on to bigger adventures. With Tom Hiddleston’s Loki preoccupied with his new role, it’s possible that a Loki spinoff could focus on Sylvie’s continuing adventures.

8 What Will Victor Timely Become Without TVA Intervention?

Victor Timely Is The MCU’s Newest Kang Variant

Jonathan Majors' Victor Timely looking surprised in Loki season 2

Loki season 2, episode 3, “1893,” introduced Jonathan Majors’ Victor Timely to the MCU, the newest variant of Kang the Conqueror. This variant began his life in the 19th Century as an inventor, guided by a TVA guidebook that was gifted to him as a child that eventually brought him into contact with Ravonna Renslayer, Loki, and Mobius. However, Loki season 2’s finale rewrote Timely’s childhood, revealing that Renslayer no longer gifted him a TVA guidebook, so a Loki spinoff could reveal what comes of Victor Timely without the TVA’s involvement in his life, as he would surely still grow up to be a powerful variant of Kang the Conqueror.

Victor Timely is only one of six primary variants of Kang the Conqueror introduced in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, the others being He Who Remains in Loki season 1, and Kang the Conqueror himself, Immortus, Egyptian Pharaoh Rama-Tut, and a version of Marvel Comics’ Scarlet Centurion in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

7 Ouroboros’ MCU Backstory Is Still A Mystery

Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros Left Many Questions Unanswered

Ke Huy Quan's Ouroboros with the new TVA guidebook at the end of Loki season 2

Academy Award-winner Ke Huy Quan debuted in Loki season 2 as Ouroboros, a.k.a. OB, the TVA’s engineer who had designed many of the apparatus used by the organization. OB’s introduction raised many questions, as he remembered the previous centuries while other TVA staff had their memories wiped, and Loki season 2 failed to explain these mysteries. A spinoff focused on Ouroboros would not only give Ke Huy Quan a more substantive role in the MCU, but perhaps help to answer some major discrepancies in his MCU backstory, and potentially even reveal more about his genius science-fiction writing variant, A. D. Doug.

6 A New Loki Variant Could Be Introduced To The MCU

Marvel Studios Has Debuted Many Variants Of Loki

Boastful Loki, Kid Loki, Alligator Loki, and Classic Loki in the Void in Loki season 1

Since Tom Hiddleston’s Loki variant escaped from the Avengers in Endgame, many further variants of Loki have been introduced to the MCU. Most notably, Sylvie played a major role in Loki’s growth in the Multiverse Saga, but Loki’s journey to the Void in Loki season 1 also saw him meet a selection of his variants who had survived there. The likes of Richard E. Grant’s Classic Loki, DeObia Oparei’s Boastful Loki, and Jack Veal’s Kid Loki could all return for a Loki spinoff, particularly since Kid Loki is speculated to be a part of the MCU’s Young Avengers team. Tom Hiddleston could even return as a completely new Loki variant.

Many potential members of the MCU’s Young Avengers have been introduced in the Multiverse Saga, with Kid Loki being only one. The rumored team received their most recent tease at the end of The Marvels, as Kamala Khan approached Kate Bishop with the proposition of putting together a team, inspired by her time with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau.

5 He Who Remains’ Origins & The Multiversal War Could Be Explored

Loki Season 2 Didn’t Reveal He Who Remains’ Backstory

Jonathan Majors first appeared as He Who Remains, a variant of Multiverse Saga villain Kang the Conqueror, in the finale of Loki season 1, but reprised the role in season 2. He Who Remains revealed himself to be the creator of the TVA, having established the organization following a great Multiversal War between him and other Kang variants. While pieces of He Who Remains’ backstory have been mentioned, it would be great to see the story detailed in a Loki spinoff. He Who Remains is a mysterious figure, so exploring him further would help to build up Kang the Conqueror as an even bigger threat in the Multiverse Saga.

4 Ravonna Renslayer’s Fate Is Unknown After Loki Season 2

Ravonna Renslayer Was Sent To The Void In Loki Season 2

Ravonna Renslayer in the Void in Loki season 2

In Loki season 2, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ravonna Renslayer was revealed to have helped He Who Remains win the Multiversal War, building a relationship with the powerful Kang variant, though he still had her memory erased. This led to her introduction as a TVA judge in Loki season 1, yet after going rogue and trying to manipulate Victor Timely, Renslayer was pruned by Sylvie and sent to the Void. While Loki season 2’s finale teased her death at the hands of Alioth, popular theories suggest the creature may remember her from the Multiversal War, meaning she may survive to embark on a new mission in a potential Loki spinoff.

3 Loki Season 2 Already Teased Balder The Brave

Balder The Brave Has Been Teased In Previous MCU Projects

Mobius and Loki in Chicago looking at Balder, Odin, and Thor statues

Loki season 2 included the MCU’s most recent tease to Thor and Loki’s missing brother, Balder the Brave, suggesting that he may soon debut in the MCU. Balder the Brave appeared in concept art for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Illuminati, but didn’t end up being included. However, the appearance of a Balder statue alongside Odin and Thor in Loki season 2 hints at his potential debut. With Loki now existing outside of time, and Thor rumored to be setting out on a new mission in Thor 5, it’s possible that Balder could be introduced to helm his own spinoff, and develop the mythos of Asgard even further.

2 Mobius’ Next Steps In The MCU Haven’t Been Revealed

Owen Wilson Has Been Rumored To Return In Upcoming MCU Projects

Mobius on his branched timeline at the end of Loki season 2

Over the duration of Marvel Studios’ Loki series, Owen Wilson’s Mobius formed a close bond with Loki, so ended up as one of the most lost characters in season 2’s finale after Loki assumed his new role protecting the multiverse. Mobius was last seen watching over his variant and his sons on a branched timeline, leaving his next steps in the MCU uncertain. Mobius will likely return to the TVA, so could be involved with a potential detective-style Loki spinoff, but Wilson has also been rumored for several upcoming projects. Speculation suggests that Mobius may appear in 2024’s Deadpool 3, so his storyline may continue without a dedicated MCU spinoff.

1 The TVA Could Form A Team Of Multiversal Heroes

The TVA Need Help Bringing Down Kang The Conqueror

Rumors of Owen Wilson’s involvement in Deadpool 3 perhaps reinforce another popular MCU theory suggesting that the TVA will be building a team of multiversal superheroes to battle Kang the Conqueror in Phase 6’s Avengers films. A Loki spinoff could explore this team coming together under the guidance of the new TVA, with Mobius potentially taking on the Nick Fury-style role as the team’s benefactor. Along the same lines of Earth-838’s Illuminati and What If…?’s Guardians of the Multiverse, the TVA’s multiversal team has been speculated to include Deadpool and Wolverine, and could even feature Sylvie, or even a Loki variant plucked from the Void.
