The first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine featured an Easter egg that supports an excellent Avengers: Secret Wars theory. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon get bigger, with Deadpool & Wolverine bringing Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and a slew of other cast members from Fox’s Marvel movies. Besides all the exciting character returns in Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie will bring many firsts to both the Deadpool franchise and the MCU as a whole. As the MCU’s first R-rated movie and a major Multiverse Saga entry, anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine is high.

The high-profile movie could do a lot of heavy lifting for future MCU projects, with Deadpool & Wolverine‘s story focusing on a pair of X-Men characters — the first time the MCU does so. The debut of the MCU’s X-Men will be a massive event, and perhaps a few of the new versions of the team’s members could cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Besides the movie’s X-Men connection, Deadpool & Wolverine will fill the hole left by there not being new Avengers movies in the MCU in years — and it could possibly set up the biggest Avengers movie yet: Secret Wars.

The first trailer for Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine featured multiple references to past Marvel projects, both MCU and otherwise.

Deadpool 3 Features The Void And A Secret Wars Comic Book

Disney+’s Loki Is Important For Deadpool & Wolverine

Deadpool and Secret Wars Comic

As revealed in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, Reynolds’ Wade Wilson can be seen in a quick shot lying down next to a comic book from the 2015 Secret Wars Marvel Comics event.

That tease is not there for nothing, as Avengers: Secret Wars will be based on that version of the comic book story, which dealt heavily with the incursions that have already made their way into MCU projects. It would make sense that Marvel Studios is teasing the Multiverse Saga’s finale in Deadpool & Wolverine, which will be the biggest project until 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

While the presence of the Secret Wars comic book in itself is interesting, the setting where it and Reynolds’ Wade Wilson are located in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer makes the ordeal all the more interesting. While it has not been outright confirmed, Deadpool and Wolverine have most likely been sent to the Void in the movie. Having debuted in Disney+’s Loki, the Void is the location where all the characters and more from different universes go after being pruned by the TVA. The presence of the Secret Wars comic book in the Void could be teasing a major reveal.

Alioth, the cloud-like entity that guards the Void, can be spotted in the
Deadpool & Wolverine
trailer, cementing that the
Loki
location will make the jump from TV to the movie side of the MCU.

The Void Is The Perfect Battleworld Replacement For Avengers: Secret Wars

Deadpool & Wolverine Could Be Teasing One Of The MCU’s Best Comic Book Changes

In the Secret Wars comics, Battleworld is a planet that is made up of several iconic Marvel locations, with the multiverse’s best heroes and villains put together to fight or control their respective lands under Doctor Doom’s rule, depending on which version of the Secret Wars comic book event is in question. However, the MCU has already shown that the Void features different variants of characters, items from multiple universes, and more. Due to that, it would make sense to use the location as the MCU’s version of Battleworld rather than creating a new, similar setting.

Besides, the comic book shown in Deadpool & Wolverine has direct ties to that theory. Secret Wars #6 was the issue of the 2015 Marvel Comics event where Battleworld’s creation was explored, further cementing the movie’s tease of what could be to come in Avengers: Secret Wars. While it remains to be seen if Battleworld will play any role in Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie could, at the very least, be teasing an interesting comic book change for Avengers: Secret Wars through its Easter egg.

Avengers: Secret Wars

Avengers: Secret Wars is the sixth Avengers film and takes place during phase six of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. The film will see several heroes from the prior phases return and battle against a cosmic threat to rival Thanos, and borrows elements of the Marvel Comics event of the same name.
