New MCU fan art imagines Doctor Doom, Ultron, and Kang the Conqueror as the villains for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars crossover. First announced by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige at SDCC 2022, Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to release in 2027, and will bring together the MCU’s heroes in an epic crossover storyline that will conclude the Multiverse Saga. Although releasing only a year after Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it’s unclear whether Secret Wars will be a direct sequel to Phase 6’s first Avengers project, as there is speculation Secret Wars will tell an even bigger story that could change the shape of the MCU forever.

Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be based on Marvel Comics’ 1984 and 2015 stories of the same name. The former featured the Marvel Universe’s heroes and villains battling each other for the enjoyment of the enigmatic Beyonder, while the latter dealt with the fallout of a multiversal incursion. Whichever storyline is adapted, the MCU’s Secret Wars is expected to feature many heroes and villains from Marvel’s history. MCU fan art shared by venomhology brings together Ultron, Kang the Conqueror, and Doctor Doom, whose debut in the MCU is highly-anticipated.

Venomhology imagines Cillian Murphy as Doctor Doom, which has become a popular fan-cast for the anticipated MCU villain.

Why Doctor Doom Is Perfect For Avengers: Secret Wars

Doctor Doom in Marvel Comics

Rumors have been circulating for quite some time that Doctor Doom will be introduced to the MCU before the Multiverse Saga comes to an end, and this could set up the perfect storyline for Avengers: Secret Wars. In Marvel Comics’ 2015 Secret Wars event, Doctor Doom establishes himself as God Emperor Doom of Battleworld following an incursion that destroys many realities of the multiverse. A similar storyline could unfold in the MCU’s Phase 6 if Doctor Doom debuts beforehand, potentially in 2025’s Fantastic Four or an as-yet-unrevealed Phase 6 project. This would also give weight to more recent speculation that Secret Wars will reboot the MCU.

Doctor Doom is an incredibly complex villain who has the capacity to replace Thanos and Kang the Conqueror as the next MCU Saga’s primary antagonist, but there are worries that Marvel Studios could rush his introduction when his character deserves much more time to develop. If Doctor Doom debuts in the MCU prior to Secret Wars, his motivation in forming Battleworld could be out of heroism, only for this to become twisted when the character returns in Phase 7. As a regular enemy of the titular team, Fantastic Four is the best place to introduce the MCU’s Doctor Doom, but Avengers: Secret Wars can make him much more powerful.
