The MCU has struggled recently to stir up any excitement, but X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn believes Deadpool 3 will be the movie that brings it back to life. Marvel has had several recent missteps that have led to poor critical reception, lackluster success at the box office, and general fatigue regarding the universe. However, the studio’s only 2024 Marvel movie, Deadpool 3, has the power to get the franchise out of its funk.

Deadpool 3 is the third film featuring Ryan Reynolds as the titular Merc With A Mouth, but what has audiences so excited is the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. While details about the movie are still kept sealed by Marvel, Vaughn appears thrilled about this film’s potential. In an interview with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, the Argylle director predicted that Deadpool 3‘s story will be the “jolt” that brings the MCU back to life.

That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.

Will Deadpool 3 Actually Save The MCU From Recent Troubles?

While the MCU is anything but dead, it does need something to get audiences invested in the universe once again, especially as it gears up for Avengers 5. The recent problems have involved poor reviews from critics and audiences, for films like The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Another issue has been an overall lack of interest in the universe as the constant onslaught of movies and TV shows has been exhausting for some viewers. These combined problems have led to diminishing returns at the box office and a lack of viewership on Disney+.

Deadpool 3

Release Date
July 26, 2024

Director
Shawn Levy

Deadpool 3 has a solid chance of saving the MCU, but there are some concerns. Firstly, the film needs to be great, which will hopefully be the case as Reynolds and director Shawn Levy have had success in the past. Deadpool 3 will make money considering Jackman’s return as Wolverine, but if the movie is bad, then that will lead to a disappointing box office run. Secondly, Deadpool 3 could also set the MCU on a connective path where the stories start coming together. That could illustrate the endgame of the Multiverse Saga and get viewers more interested in what comes next. So, Vaughn could be right and Deadpool 3 will save the MCU.
