The MCU’s first animated TV series, What If…? season 1 is now complete – but how do the individual Marvel episodes compare to one another?
What To Expect From What If…? Season 2
A New MCU Era Is Coming
Marvel Studios is rethinking how it does television. An October report from THR revealed that Marvel is taking the necessary steps to deal with the criticism that many MCU shows have faced. In order to correct issues like poor pacing, uneven stories, and bad CGI, Marvel is slowing down its Disney+ output, hiring actual showrunners, and more.
One of the new ways Marvel is handling its series is related to their release, with What If…? season 2 set to release one episode every day after its first one starts streaming. That, paired with Echo releasing all of its five episodes on the same day in January, signals that a new era for the MCU shows has begun. What If…? season 2 will continue the first season’s style of serving as an anthology, with few connections between its episodes, such as the return of Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter to headline another episode.
Atwell’s return for What If…? season 2 will count with at least one episode — “What If… Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?” — which is the first episode of the new season and was screened at 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Other confirmed stories for What If…? season 2 include the debut of new original Native American hero Kahhori, Iron Man replacing Thor for a version of Thor: Ragnarok, Odin fighting the Mandarin, and more. Based on the confirmed details and the teases seen in the new trailer, What If…? season 2 seems to build on what worked for season 1 and make it even better.
Marvel’s What If…? season 2 releases its first episode on December 22, with a daily release for the rest of its 8 episodes until December 30.
