Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he is reportedly the top choice to replace Steven Yeun in Thunderbolts. One of the most highly anticipated installments in The Multiverse Saga is Thunderbolts, which brings together various villains and morally gray heroes of the MCU. Set to be Marvel Studios’ own version of the Suicide Squad with multiple MCU members, Thunderbolts recently ran into an obstacle as Yeun exited the movie on January 2.
It appears that Yeun’s MCU replacement may have been found, as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Pullman is currently the frontrunner for the Sentry role in Thunderbolts. At the time of this story’s publication, Marvel Studios has yet to comment on the casting report that was originally broken by Daniel Richtman.

Steven Yeun’s Exit Explained & What Pullman’s Casting Means For Thunderbolts
Despite Yeun having done costume fitting for Thunderbolts, the Walking Dead actor had to exit due to scheduling issues. Instead of the situation being related to creative issues, the departure between Marvel Studios and Yeun was amicable, leaving the door open for him to maybe play a different character down the line. As Yeun’s career has only expanded lately, it is understandable that he is committed to other projects too, and last year’s strikes impacted many production timelines.
The fact that Marvel Studios supposedly already has Pullman as a possible replacement speaks volumes for the Thunderbolts production. As they were meant to start filming in 2023, they had to push back in light of the Hollywood strikes. However, now that Pullman is reportedly a frontrunner to replace Yeun, Marvel clearly wants to stay on track for their target principal photography start, which can only be a positive thing for Thunderbolts.
While Marvel has not said the role is Sentry, Robert Kirkman accidentally let it slip in 2023 that Yeun was indeed cast in that role.
Time will tell if Pullman ends up signing on for Thunderbolts or if other candidates may proceed to the frontrunner stage. With Sentry being such a pivotal character in Marvel Comics, the MCU is definitely going to shake things up with his live-action debut. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will be ready to announce whoever is going to be their new Sentry when they finally start filming on Thunderbolts this year.
