A new MCU theory suggests that Phase 5’s Loki season 2 could provide the answer to several unanswered mysteries from previous installments in the Multiverse Saga. Loki season 2 premiered on October 5, 2023, picking up immediately after season 1’s finale in Phase 4 as Tom Hiddleston’s Loki found himself time-slipping through the past, present, and future of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). To solve this infliction, Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius enlisted the help of MCU newcomer Ke Huy Quan’s Ouroboros, a.k.a. OB, who has secretly been introduced as one of the most important figures in Loki season 2, and potentially the Multiverse Saga as a whole.
As well as introducing exciting new characters such as Ouroboros, Loki season 2 has also been expanding on the mythos of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror, the Multiverse Saga’s primary antagonist. Following the demise of He Who Remains in Loki season 1’s finale, an infinite number of Kang variants were unleashed on the MCU, and Loki season 2, episode 3, introduced yet another one: Victor Timely, a 19th-century inventor. With Victor Timely heading to the TVA to help fix the malfunctioning Temporal Loom, he is set to come face-to-face with Ouroboros, which could lead to some mind-blowing reveals that may connect several separate projects from the MCU’s Phase 4.
OB May Have Created Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings & Ms. Marvel’s Bangle
Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 came under some scrutiny for its lack of interconnectivity between projects, as every new installment seemed to introduce story elements that had nothing to do with the overarching narrative. However, a theory posed by Reddit user grootshoot65 suggests that Ouroboros may be the key to connecting several of these loose ends. The theory notes that OB could be the creator of Shang-Chi’s enigmatic Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel’s mystical bangle, two of the biggest mysteries of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. This gives weight to previous popular theories that suggested Kang the Conqueror may be connected to the Ten Rings and the bangle.
Ke Huy Quan’s MCU debut expanded on Loki’s narrative in some interesting ways, as it was revealed that all the staff in the TVA had periodically had their memories wiped by He Who Remains, but Ouroboros seemingly hadn’t. As the creator and maintainer of most of the TVA’s equipment, OB’s memory is perhaps precious to keeping the organization running smoothly, but this could also have been a ploy by He Who Remains to keep tabs on the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel’s bangle. It’s been theorized that these MCU relics will be important for Kang the Conqueror’s Multiverse Saga plan, so this could be explained further in Loki season 2.
The Ten Rings & The Bangle Could Be Key To Kang The Conqueror’s Plan
The Reddit theory suggests that the Ten Rings and the bangle might be crucial in fixing the TVA’s Temporal Loom, particularly since both accessories harness energies that the residents of the MCU aren’t yet familiar with. The Ten Rings were introduced in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where they were initially wielded by Xu Wenwu – the real Mandarin – before being acquired by Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi as a force for good. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ post-credits scene revealed that the Ten Rings had been sending a beacon across the cosmos, though the beacon’s recipient hasn’t yet been confirmed.
Various theories have noted similarities between the Ten Rings, the bangle, and Kang the Conqueror’s Quantum Realm empire in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Loki season 2’s OB would be the perfect connection between all three, as he had been working for a variant of Kang the Conqueror, and could have designed and created the Ten Rings and the bangle for some purpose. The theory notes that the Ten Rings, the bangle, and much of Kang and He Who Remains’ own equipment are “neurokinetic”. This means that they connect to the user’s mind, functioning via thought, and this similarity hints at them being created by the same source: OB.
The Marvels Will Explore The Bangle, & Could Lead Back To Loki
2022’s Ms. Marvel on Disney+ introduced Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, a New Jersey teenager who becomes a superhero after the bangle unlocks a latent mutant ability inside her. Although the bangle is a key plot point in Ms. Marvel, the series doesn’t explore where its origins, other than showing it on a blue arm in 1942. Marvel Studios’ upcoming The Marvels is set to investigate the bangle in more detail, as Zawe Ashton’s villainous Dar-Benn has a bangle of her own. Adding this to Ms. Marvel’s blue-armed being hints at the bangles being Kree in origin, but it’s possible that the Kree could have acquired them from someone else.
Expected to release on November 10, 2023, The Marvels will hit theaters the day after Loki season 2’s finale, which could hint at the two projects being very closely connected. If Loki season 2 reveals that the origin of Ms. Marvel’s bangle lies with Ouroboros, this could be expanded in The Marvels, particularly since the most recent teaser for The Marvels hinted at an Asgardian cameo. With half of Loki season 2 still yet to release, there’s more than enough time for a connection between Kang the Conqueror, OB, the Ten Rings, and Ms. Marvel’s bangle to be established, finally helping to bring some connectivity to the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
New episodes of Loki release every Thursday at 6pm PT/9pm ET on Disney+.
