Director Sam Raimi recently commented on the possibility of following up his previous MCU success by helming Avengers: Secret Wars. Raimi’s name has been floated as a possibility to direct Secret Wars by fans, but Marvel has yet to make any official announcements about who might be leading the project. Raimi’s previous MCU project, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, also included elements of multiverse travel and featured cameos, similar to what is expected from Avengers: Secret Wars.

Speaking with Screen Geek, Sam Raimi gave some encouraging comments on the possibility of directing Avengers: Secret Wars. While he says Marvel hasn’t asked him yet, Raimi does seem excited about the possibility. He also made it clear he enjoyed working with Marvel, and hopes the door may be open for a future collaboration. Raimi’s comments can be seen below:

I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books. I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.

After Raimi’s major success with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which earned $955.8 million at the box office, it would seem Marvel has nearly a billion reasons to trust Raimi with another MCU project. Whether they will remains to be seen.

Given Sam Raimi’s track record of working with Marvel, it wouldn’t be surprising to see another collaboration between him and the MCU. Starting with his original Spider-Man movie back in 2002, every Marvel project that Raimi has worked on has been a massive success. Even Spider-Man 3, which wasn’t as critically successful as the previous entries in Raimi’s trilogy, earned a massive amount at the box office.

Sam Raimi Marvel Movie

Worldwide Box Office Total

Spider-Man

$825,025,036

Spider-Man 2

$788,976,453

Spider-Man 3

$894,983,373

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

$955,775,804

Raimi proved that he could continue this trend with a modern MCU movie in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Not only did it prove Raimi could handle a hero other than Spider-Man, he was also able to incorporate his style into an MCU project effectively. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness having some similarities to Avengers: Secret Wars also doesn’t hurt when considering Raimi as director.

If there is one thing counting against Raimi when it comes to getting the Avengers: Secret Wars gig, it might be his unique style. Although Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness fit the MCU well, there were some moments of Raimi’s horror roots that might be a bit too unsettling for a massive Avengers film, which is usually aimed at a wider audience. However, a strong style might be just what is needed to make Avengers: Secret Wars stand out from previous crossover movies, so Raimi may still be perfect for the job.
