  • It’s possible that Black Panther 3 may not happen until after The Multiverse Saga, providing the opportunity to create a fitting and strong conclusion to the trilogy. As such, the extended wait could well be a positive for the franchise.

Zoë Kravitz joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Storm in new Black Panther 3 fan art. It has nearly been a year since the MCU dealt with one of its most emotional chapters of all time, as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dealt with the loss of T’Challa following the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman. While one chapter was closed, a new one began with Shuri becoming the new Black Panther, setting her on a heroic path for years to come in the MCU timeline.

With the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the Black Panther franchise is closing in on wrapping up its trilogy, as the world waits to on news for Black Panther 3 and what the sequel will be about. As the MCU audience is speculating about the direction for Black Panther 3, Marvels.Wolverine shared fan art for the threequel, calling it Black Panther: Legacy of Wakanda, while depicting Kravitz as the iconic X-Men heroine, Storm.

Kravitz is no stranger to the superhero genre, as she is currently playing Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe. While she is suggested as Strom, Kravitz has actually already played a Marvel mutant, as she portrayed Angel Salvadore in X-Men: First Class back in 2011.

What’s Going On With Black Panther 3?

With all the ways that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sets up Black Panther 3, the question of what is actually going on with the next movie is an inevitable one. While Black Panther 3 has been discussed as a possibility, Marvel Studios have not formally greenlit a sequel for a number of reasons, despite Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s box office success and strong critical response.

In an interview back in January 2023, Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, revealed that while she “think it’s already in the works,” the Black Panther cast and crew “need a little bit of break, we need to regroup, and Ryan [Coogler] needs to get back into the lab so it’s going to take a while.” Given Boseman’s tragic passing, actors and creative members for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have shared how challenging it was making the sequel as they were still grieving. It’s also encouraging to hear that it seems Coogler may be able to properly take his time to come up with a fitting and strong story for a potential Black Panther 3.

At this point, it wouldn’t be shocking if Black Panther 3 doesn’t happen until after The Multiverse Saga is over, setting it somewhere in Phase 7 or even beyond. Given the massive impact of the Black Panther franchise, an extended wait is only a good thing, as it provides time for the crew to put together the perfect end to the trilogy. But for now, the MCU audience will have to wait and see what becomes of Black Panther 3 in the future.
