Following her final scene in The Marvels, Ms. Marvel actor Iman Vellani opens up about that major moment for Kamala Khan and where it may take her down the line in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the Captain Marvel sequel marked the final MCU Phase 5 movie for 2023, The Marvels featured multiple cameos, with one of them involving Ms. Marvel herself. The MCU movie had the New Jersey heroine cross paths with none other than Kate Bishop herself.

Now that The Marvels has been released, Vellani is able to talk about her final scene in the Phase 5 movie. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Ms. Marvel star reveals she heard rumors of a different Young Avenger character being featured instead of Hailee Steinfeld’s Hawkeye. While she didn’t reveal the specific character in question, Vellani shared the following about getting to have that special moment in The Marvels:

There was a version of this in an old script, but we never shot it. And then there were rumors that we were going to get to it in additional photography, but with a different young Avenger. So I never really got the script until right before additional photography and then I flipped out. I immediately rewatched Iron Man and texted Nia in all caps. I was like, “I cannot believe the honor that I am getting right now. This is crazy!” I did not need to rewatch that entire movie, but it didn’t hurt. So I was giddy the entire time. All of us were freaking out. It was also the last scene we shot for the movie, and it is the last scene of the movie.

How The MCU Has Set Up The Young Avengers So Far

Kate Bishop, America Chavez, and Skaar in MCU

As The Infinity Saga brought the original era of the Avengers to an end, the MCU has used The Multiverse Saga to set up the next generation of heroes. While doing that, various MCU movies and TV shows have also begun to plant the seeds for the Young Avengers, even though there are no specific plans yet for a film centered on the team. While Kate had her big scene with Kamala in The Marvels, she is just one of many Young Avengers who currently exist in the MCU.

WandaVision was a significant launch for Speed and Wiccan, with one of them currently rumored to appear in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brought Riri Williams into the MCU to set up her Ironheart spinoff show on Disney+, which will explore the character in greater depth, and even though he didn’t appear at all in Loki season 2, Kid Loki was featured in season 1, leaving the door open for any version of him to come back down the line.

While America Chavez (from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Cassie Lang (from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania), and Eli Bradley (from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier) haven’t returned yet, the Young Avengers are clearly something that will happen sooner rather than later. Whether that takes place in The Multiverse Saga at all remains to be seen; it wouldn’t be shocking if Marvel Studios uses the Young Avengers in Phase 7 instead. Hopefully, The Marvels will just be the beginning for this new team.

Cassie Lang was also referenced in Kamala’s conversation with Kate in The Marvels.
